Heaven Sent by David Walker is, as David calls it, tidbits of inspiration and wisdom. I use it as a daily devotional but can rarely stop at one story followed by David’s interpretation of God’s Word.

Heaven Sent is a comforting read. I’ve often picked it up at random times throughout my day, and after reading a few stories, feel a sense of peace.

Perhaps it’s God’s grace and what He aligned for me in the past two weeks—but nothing was further from the truth. I faced unsettling medical tests and each test led to yet another uncomfortable and frightening procedure.

As my medical issues were sorted out by my physicians; David Walker’s Heaven Sent soothed my weary soul and calmed me with God’s Words on nights I couldn’t sleep. Bible verses included in Heaven Sent, while familiar, added contentment and led me into reading more verses.

Other devotionals I’ve read have a Bible verse or quotation at the beginning then the author writes to that subject line. David Walker does the reverse, utilizing anecdotal stories of hope, wisdom, and courage and then closing with God’s Word.

Heaven Sent indeed arrived when I needed it the most and I’m well into my second read. Even if you’re not a regular devotional reader, Heaven Sent should enhance your relationship with God. There are tidbits of wisdom for everyone. I highly recommend Heaven Sent.

  1. Beautifully said. Isn’t it amazing how some books just “come” to us when we need them most. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers….hugs!

    • Hey, Natalie – Nice to see you hear. And, yes indeed – David’s ‘Heaven Sent’ arrived just in time for both my husband and myself. We were both slammed at the same time with major medical issues. “Heaven Sent’ has wonderful stories David has gathered over the years and then wraps them with God’s Word – truly ‘Heaven Sent’. I highly recommend.

  2. Hope everything went well yesterday, and that the book did its job! This sounds like a nice change from the Guideposts inspirationals, reversing the order of things — I tend to go through those way too fast, but it sounds like Heaven Sent might last longer. Another great recommendation; thanks!

  3. Sheri, I hope all your medical issues have been sorted out and that you’re feeling a bit better now.

    • Patti – I find that as I grow older – the medical issues seem to come more frequent. David Walker’s devotional, ‘Heaven Sent’ has become a constant companion with my daily Bible reading. His stories as a set-up to God’s Word are beautiful and touch the heart–I can’t recommend them enough–they lift me up and set wings to my thoughts when I’m feeling down.

Thanks, Sheri, for your fine review of my brother’s book. I’m having some technical difficulties being able to download it, so haven’t had the opportunity to read it yet. I like the whole idea behind the book and the format that he has apparetly used. In fact, I am proud of David. I hope your medical issuess will be resolved soon, Sheri.

    • Barbara – You are in for a real treat. David’s book, “Heaven Sent’ is a refreshing read of God’s Word. The book is a terrific companion for daily Bible reading but stands on its own as well. As I’ve read it while waiting for one medical test after another, I’ve had medical personnel ask me about what I was reading and I’ve only been too happy to let them know not only the title of “Heaven Sent’ but how they could get their very own copy. “Heaven Sent’ is a testimonial to David’s faith in God and you have every right to be proud of your brother. He’s a great guy.

  5. Thank you for such a positive review, Sheri. I pray that the medical issues will be taken care of soon. God bless you.

Thank you for a wonderful post, Sheri. I like the idea of a daily devotional wrapped around stories, which is a new approach for me. My present devotional is dog-eagered and underscored. I’m a strong believer in faith and prayer. I can’t tell you the number of times God has revealed His hand in my life, leaving me astounded, humbled and so appreciative that He loves us beyond our comprehension.

I didn’t realize you were having such unsettling medical issues. I pray it has all been sorted out by now. What a blessing it must have been to have David’s book there when you needed that extra measure of God’s promise for our lives.

  7. It never ceases to amaze me how a person or a book will enter your life just when you need it/them. As I get older, I notice these “coincidences” are occurring more frequently! Thank you for the wonderful recommendation Sheri. It was heaven sent…
